Best Time to Visit Great Barrier Reef

The climate of the Great Barrier Reef can be divided into two parts: tropical in the northern region of the Reef and sub-tropical in the southern region of Reef. Any time is a good time for a visit to this natural wonder but the winter months between June and August are best mainly because the weather is dry and far less humid than it is in summer. However, the peak tourism season is from April to November. Keep in mind to make reservations for accommodations and activities in advance as they tend to get booked pretty quickly.

For diving, the best months to visit the Reef is from April to October when the visibility is at its clearest. May to February is the time for a number of reef events which make for an interesting watch. The Whale Migrations in May through August, the Turtle Mating from October to February, the Coral Spawning in early November and the Fish Spawning in October through December are some of the interesting events that take place in the Great Barrier Reef.

December to March are the hottest months here and are best avoided.
