Eating Out in Salzburg

There is a wide choice of eating places in Salzburg. Bite into hearty Austrian fare in lively pubs or nibble at delicious nouvelle cuisine in elegant restaurants, the choice is varied. Wherever you do choose to eat, do not miss the pastry shops on the streets that serve the most outstanding soufflés and the melt in your mouth chocolate filled "Mozart balls" that will have you drooling for more!

The beer gardens of Salzburg can give the ones in Germany a run for their money. Sit out in the open, sip a pint of beer, savour the "wiener" and "wurst" and do some people watching. Augustiner Bräustübl is Salzburg’s most famous beer garden and has been around since 1622. A great place to enjoy a drink on warm nights it can accommodate over a 1000 people! If you are looking for revellery of a different kind, let your hair down in one of the numerous bars and nightclubs in Salzburg where you can drink and dance the night away. Bellini’s, Baboon Bar and the Cave Club are good places to check out. The Cave Club is built into the Rainberg Mountain and is actually a cave! A great place to go over the weekends to dance and enjoy a drink.

Culture buffs will have their fill of concerts, plays and musical performances in this town. Of course during the Salzburg Festspiele held in late July and August, the town is overrun by tourists wanting to catch as many performances as they can. But even at other times of the year one can always spend an evening at the theatre as companies put up concerts the year round. You can make a stop at the Salzburg Marionette Theater or a Das Kino a small cinema that screens independent and art house films. Salzburg Marionette Theaterseats close to 350 people and many operas, ballets and plays are staged here. The culturally inclined should check out listings to see what’s playing during their visit to Salzburg.
