Where to Stay in Vienna

There is a range of accommodation options in Vienna – International chain hotels, hostels and pensions. But most people who travel to Vienna would want to stay within the Ring-Strasse that frames the Inner City or Innere Stadt (District 1) as most of the city’s attractions – St. Stephens Cathedral, the Opera House, Hofburg palace, as well as handful of other museums and shopping areas - The Karntner Straße and the Graben - are all within walking distance. Vienna Marriott Hotel, Radisson, Hotel Bristol, Hotel Imperial, Hilton Vienna, Mercure Josefshof Wien, Mercure Wien Zentrum and many more high-end accommodations can be found in District 1.

As Vienna has excellent transport system, staying in one of the accommodations of District 2-9 can also be considered. All the hotels are located within about a 5-minute walk to an underground or at least a rail or tram station, you can get to the center within 20 minutes or less on public transportation from anywhere in the city.

University dorms are also available from July to September. Remember the closer the hotel to the city centre, the dearer the room! At the up market hotels, if going off season, you could try to negotiate the rate and you will probably get a good deal as hotels need to fill up their rooms. Pension rates tend to be reasonable but reserve at least 5 days ahead for rooms, especially between June and September.

Whether you want to stay in the city centre, close to one of the city’s attractions such as Schloss Schönbrunn or Belvedere Castle, or in one of the more tranquil parts of Vienna, renting a holiday apartment is an excellent option and often very cost-efficient.
