Eating Out in Brugge

Brugge has no shortage of places to eat, and depending upon your budget and your tastes, you shouldn’t have much trouble finding a suitable restaurant. The city’s eateries serve excellent continental cuisine, but more pocket-friendly and familiar foods like pizzas and sandwiches are also widely available. One of Brugge’s specialities is the excellent herring (served fresh with onions - delicious but rather smelly!), available at the local Fish Market at Vismarkt. If you’re looking for places where you can eat cheaply, head for the many cafés and small establishments that abound in the city centre. As far as entertainment is concerned, Brugge is fairly well-equipped to provide that too; there are lots of bars and discotheques, many of them very lively indeed, and often frequented by an enthusiastic student crowd. There are musical concerts, theatre performances; if you’re interested in these, do make it a point to visit the city squares during the summer. There are often excellent performances of classical music held in the squares at this time. For more details on what’s happening in Brugge, pick up a copy of the publications Exit or Agenda Brugge- both are available at the tourist office and at most hotels, and carry listings of almost everything being held in the city.
