Best Time to Visit Montreal

The best time to visit Montreal is during the months of June to September. Being summer season, during these months, the weather is warm and streets tend to be filled with locals and tourists, all out to soak up the sun and enjoy the many activities and sights the city has to offer. Amongst the summer months, July and August tend to be the peak tourist season and the hottest months of the year, much like the rest of Canada. Average temperatures during June to August tend to be between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, with a notable dip in September to about 15 to 17 degrees Celsius.

Another feature adding to the attraction of visiting Montreal during these months are the many festivals which take place in the city, including the Formula One Grand Prix (June), Montreal International Jazz Festival (June-July), Just For Laughs Comedy Festival (July) and many more.

Off-peak season is during the months of months of November to March, with the temperatures tending to drop well below freezing, going upto minus 10 degrees Celsius, and the city being enveloped in snow, especially in the prime winter months of December to February. The remaining months of November and March, marking the end of autumn and nearing of spring, are far more bearable and quiet a charm to visit, owing to their relatively warmer days. However for those brave enough to handle the low temperatures, winter is a good time to visit if one wishes to partake in winter activities and enjoy the snowy landscape. Moreover, with its underground city, boasting of many shopping malls, restaurants and other recreational activities, one can escape the cold outdoors and have a pleasant stay in Montreal during these months. Added to this being off-peak season, few good deals on hotels and flights maybe available as well.

The shoulder season or transitional months in Montreal are during the months of April, May and October. Though some regard fall or autumn to take place from end September to the early days of November, the real fall foliage and autumn weather is experienced in October, making it an ideal time to visit the city. Similarly whilst spring is expected to last from end March to May, the warmer temperatures and blooming flora is most experienced in the months of April and May, with average temperatures being 8 to 15 degrees Celsius. In all these transitional months, as the evenings tend to be slightly chilly, carrying a light jacket or woollens is advisable. These months also allow for good discounts on accommodations and tickets.
