How to Get to Montreal

How to Get to Montreal by Air

Two airports serve Montreal: Dorval airport is 20 kms from the city centre and Mirabel airport, 50 km northwest from downtown. Passenger flights land at Dorval while charter and cargo flights use the Mirabel. Both airports are connected to the city by bus and taxi. Both national and international airlines fly into Dorval airport. You can also hire a car from the airport itself -there are plenty of car rental companies available here.

How to Get to Montreal by Rail

Montreal is well connected by train to places within Canada and by Amtrak services to destinations in the US. There are two train stations -the major one is Central Station used by VIA and Amtrak trains and the other is Windsor station used by local commuter trains.

How to Get to Montreal by Bus

Regional, national and international (Greyhound USA) bus services connect Montreal to destinations elsewhere. The bus station is centrally located at 505 Boulevard de Maisonneuve Est.

By car: If you are coming from New York, use the US87 to get on to Hwy 15. From Toronto, use the Hwy 401. Roads are good, make sure your documents are in order and you have a valid driving license.

Getting Around Montreal

Montreal has a good public transit system: Metro buses and underground train systems cover most areas in the city and one ticket will see you through as you can transfer to connecting buses or subway trains.

Driving in Montreal can be aggravating - parking is a problem and drivers tend to be rough. Hailing a cab is easier. Pedestrians should be careful while crossing the streets. Cycling is another pleasant way of getting around the city - there are plenty of biking trails and you can hire cycles easily.
