Eating Out in Montreal

Your plate will groan under the weight of all the good things Montreal has in store for you. Besides the obvious French connection, (some of the finest French restaurants are here), Montreal can dish up some great Greek, Italian and Asian food. Fast food or rather snack food is taken seriously in Montreal -- the bagels, French fries and hot dogs are to die for on the streets of Montreal.

You can bring your own wine to accompany meals at many restaurants in the city. Check out the lunch specials - they are a good deal and at night, go for the table d'hote (complete fixed price dinner). Restaurants are generally empty during the early hours of the evening but tend to get crowded after 8 pm.

Montreal believes in pulling out the stops as far as entertainment goes! Bars, a casino, cinemas, live music, dance clubs, theatre, classical dance, spectator sports -- live life kingsize is the motto here.

Alcohol is served till 3 am in the bars and clubs in Montreal, the longest serving hours in the whole of Canada. This naturally revs up the nightlife scene in town - the night is forever young in Montreal. Grab a beer and check out the scene in Rue de la Montagne and Rue Bishop, favoured hangouts for the English and also Saint Denis, where the French prefer to party the night away. Most bars and clubs offer live music ranging from Latin sounds to country music. People in Montreal definitely like to shake a leg (among other body parts) on the dance floor -check out the amazing dance clubs here. Strip clubs are popular too.

The Casino de Montreal is of course is at hand to provide entertainment day or night. It is amongst one of the largest in the world and there is plenty of gambling happening within those walls.

Cinema is big in Montreal -the National Film Board of Canada has its operational headquarters here and offers some great viewing. There are over 30 massive multi-screen cinema complexes offering the latest movies.

Those classically inspired can take note that Montreal presents the best of both English and French performing arts. The Centaur Theatre is known for English productions. The world famous Cirque de Soleil acrobatic circus is also based here.

Hockey is the biggest spectator sports in Montreal -catch a game at the Molson Centre. You can also watch some great baseball and football in the city.
