Best Time to Visit Chad

The best time to visit Chad is winter because it is cool and dry. The temperatures range from 20 to 25 degree Celsius from November to May and there is hardly any rainfall. The temperature tends to rise to 45 degrees centigrade occasionally during summer making travel uncomfortable. June to September also means heavy rains making the roads almost impassable.

Chad has three climatic zones – (1) The Saharan zone in the north of the country has hot, arid conditions and is almost rainless. The climate is typically desert in this part of the country, with extreme temperatures during the day and night. (2) The central Sahelian zone that has a long dry season and a brief rainy spell between June and September. (3) The south of the country is within the equatorial rain belt where the rainy season is from June to October and the dry season is from November to May. The rains can be as much as 1000mm per year. The temperature can rise to 40°C degrees centigrade just before the rains.

Average annual precipitation in the capital, N’Djamena, is 750mm and the average temperature in winter ranges from 14° to 35°C and 23° to 42°C in summer.
