Currency of Ecuador

The currency is Sucre (S/). There are 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5000, 1000, 500 and 100 Sucre bills.

When budgeting for your trip - you can get by on $5-8 per night for lodging, $5-6 per day for food, $5 per day for transportation and museums, and $5 per day for miscellaneous stuff. You can always bargain to get better deals and if you are an adventurous person - you can sometimes get domestic rates instead of paying high tourist rates.

Banks remain open from 9 am to 1.30-pm weekdays. Casa de cambio are open from 9 am to 6 pm weekdays and till noon on Saturdays. The Sucre is devalued regularly. The US dollar is the easiest to exchange. Exchange houses called casas de cambio are the best places to change money – banks would do too but they’re slow.

Live life to the fullest. Make a list of ‘ things to do before I die’ and tick ...
