Elysee Palace

The official dwelling of the French President, the Elysee Palace is also the meeting place for the council of ministers for the French president. Situated in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, near the Champs-Elysees, the profoundly guarded house and grounds are sited at 55 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, which intersects with Avenue de Marigny. The site where the mansion is currently held, was earlier the property of architect Armand-Claude Mollet who sold it to Louis Henri de La Tour, a family member of the Dukes and princess, on the accord that a hotel would be constructed on the land. Therefore, Hotel dEvreux was built on this area and when completed it was bedecked by 1722 for its guests. An excellent example of French classical style of architecture, the hotel was however bought by King Louis XV as a home for his mistress after the death of his owner in 1753. The place nevertheless became the authorized residence of the French republic in 1873. The palace today has good-looking gardens and patios flanked by wide opening gates. The grandiose traditional courtyard imparts the obligatory extent of stateliness to the house. The chief edifice or the house of president is made in French classical style; the entrance hall is associated with the official courtyards and garden. The Elysee garden has been indeed an eyewitness to many overseas dignitaries as the President organizes a party on the afternoon of Bastile day every year.
