History of Berlin

After the Nazi Defeat of 1945, Berlin was a divided city. Split into east and west Berlin, the destiny of the city has paralleled and mirrored the destinies of the great world powers through the decades. After half a century, the Berlin Wall finally fell in 1990 – signifying the end of the Cold War, and foreshadowing the fall of Communism in Europe. Under the Unification Treaty, East and West merged into the Federal Republic of Germany, and Berlin was one city again.
