Where to Stay in Budapest

You can book at international chains, deluxe and first class hotels and also the more reasonable lodging. If you want a typically local flavour to your visit, for a nominal price, stay at a private home or in bungalows. It is worth the money you spend on it and usually better than cheap hotels in Budapest. You get to stay with a Hungarian family in a typical set up and yet get your own room. In fact you won’t have to go looking for them. Hosts usually hang out at stations looking for customers.

You can choose to stay either on the Buda side which is the more quintessential European surrounding with cobbled streets, gardens, quieter area and also houses the castle. The Pest side is more is more bustling, metropolis, with a host of sights, entertainment & accommodation options. If staying in the Buda side, Hilton Budapest located right next to the fisherman’s bastion and Matthias Church is the perfect choice. The hotel offers great Danube and city views, and the best of Hungarian and International cuisine. Other hotels in the area include Burg, Carlton Hotel, Art’otel, Best Western Orion, Castle Garden, G.G. Panoráma Panzió and many more. Staying in this area does not imply you are isolated from the rest of the area. You can walk from Buda to pest side across the Old Chain Bridge in not more than 20 minutes.

If staying in the more contemporary area of Budapest – the Pest side- it is best to stay near the river to be greeted with a magnificent view of the Buda Castle/ Buda side, a sight which is light up at night and is truly breathtaking. The main square area near the Old Chain Bridge is the Roosevelt Square that has many accommodations including Intercontinental, Sofitel Budapest, Marriott, Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace and many more that are highly recommended. This area is the liveliest part of the city jam-packed with river-side restaurants, cafes and even the main shopping areas are within 5 minute radius from here. Other hotels worth mentioning in this part of the city are Corinthia Hotel Budapest, Kapital Inn, Star Inn, Le Meridian, Kempinski Cornivus, President, Radisson SAS Beke, etc.

Just in case you end up looking for a place to stay be on look out for the words Zimmer frei or Szoba Kiadó signs it means room vacant. A word of advice: ensure that your location is central and conveniently serviced by local transport, before you agree to the room rent.
