History of Horsley Hills

According to the history of the place, the initial name of the Horsley Hills was Yenugu Mallamma Konda. Legend has it that there was a girl named Mallamma who was looked after by elephants. She used to heal the tribal people on the hills and when she suddenly disappeared, people took her to be a goddess and built a temple for her.

However the hills got its current name after a British officer called W.D. Horsley, the Collector of Cuddapah district. Horsley was impressed by the beauty of the hills when he visited this place around 1840-43 and chose this spot for his summer residence.

Now the Governor of Andhra Pradesh uses this house as a summer residence and hence this house is called the Governors bungalow.
