Getting Around Vijayawada

Local transportation is available in the form of buses, cycle rickshaws, autos and taxis.

All the districts of Vijayawada are well connected by bus. These buses are locally known as City Buses and can be boarded from the numerous bus stops spread all over the city. The buses tend to get overcrowded during peak hours however and taking a bus during this time should be avoided.

Night buses all ply from here to Guntur, Hyderabad, Vizag, Bangalore and Tirupati. You have to book your tickets before hand with the operators of theses buses.

Cycle rickshaws are almost obsolete in the city however you might still occasionally spot one in some areas. They are a great way to cover short distances. Auto rickshaws, on the other hand are available in plenty and can easily be flagged down on the streets. Fix the price beforehand though or the auto drivers will literally take you for a ride as the autos rarely go by the meter and the drivers try their best to rip you off.

You can also rent a car and drive around the city.
