Eating Out in New Delhi

There is no dearth of eating out options in New Delhi as the city is a food lover’s paradise and the wide varieties of eating joints sprinkled around the city it just proves that point. Choose from extensive gamut of regional and international food that caters to all the taste buds in the city.

Connaught Place and Central Delhi

Connaught Place is not only a shopping hub for the city but is also a place where one can just chill out, have fun with friends and family and savour the delicious meals that the area has to offer. Connaught Place with its various restaurants scattered around the area caters to all taste buds.

Want to savour some desi junk food which includes chaat, gol guppas, bhel puri, chaat papri, or paranthe, then you can head to Bengali Market near Connaught Place, Haldiram’s stores offers a wide variety of chaat, sweets, and other traditional spicy stuff to tingle your taste buds.

For a traditional North Indian dish of channa bhatura head to Kwality Restaurant at Regal Building, Sansad Marg in CP. Another restaurant you can try in Sansad Marg in CP is El Arab. Ideal place for middle-eastern fare, the restaurant is located on the outer ring of Connaught Place. Savour some Lebanese salads, and delicious hummus.

In a mood to splurge in food and drinks then head to Pizza Express. Identical with their western counterpart in terms of ambience, menu, and prices, this is a restaurant if you want to indulge your taste buds.

Just want to have some casual meal time with your friends and family then you can head to Don’t Pass Me By just off Janpath. Famous for its delicious vegetarian and non vegetarian Chinese fare, the restaurant is a must if you want to savour reasonably priced Chinese cuisine.

Indulge yourself in a scrumptious masala dosas at Saravana Bhawan at Janpath and conclude your meal with a delicious South Indian coffee.

Try some authentic Mughlai fare either at Nizam’s in Connaught Place, or Nirula’s for a mix of Indian Mughlai and western fast food. Narula’s is also the best place for Chinese or tasty multi-cuisine, or sample some of the fifty flavours of delicious ice cream in the parlour. A second branch on N-Block, near the Wimpy, is a popular snack bar with smooth ice-cream shakes.

Head to popular Bukhara Restaurant, ITC Maurya Sheraton for some traditional flavours of the north-west frontier cuisine that is prepared in a clay oven.

Check out Gaylord restaurant for a fine dining experience. The restaurant originally was one of the nightclubs but over the ages has become the standard but expensive restaurant that offers scrumptious Indian dishes in luxurious surroundings that are lit by the glittering chandeliers.

For some Thai or Kerala cuisine head to Spice Route an in-house restaurant in Hotel Imperial, Janpath. Have a fine dining experience while tasting some of the best and authentic Thai and Kerala cuisine offered by the restaurant.

In case you want to savour Indian and Chinese cuisine, want to enjoy the ambience as well then you can head to Parikrama on KG Marg in CP. Relish your meals while revolving and enjoying the sights of the area.

Treat yourself to Mexican cuisine amidst crooning karaoke, swinging saddle bar stools, beer pitchers, cocktails, and some superb fajitas at the Rodeo in CP.

If you relish some great coffee with your friends, then you can visit United Coffee House in Connaught Place. Along with another restaurant called Host, United Coffee House is an old favourite among the regulars and the tourists alike. Food is good with enough portions.

Prefer to have a roadside dhaba meal without the dust and grime of a roadside shop then head to The Dhaba, Claridges Hotel on Aurangzeb Road. The Dhaba has been designed to look like a trucker’s café and offers scrumptious roadside dhaba meals.

Khan Market

Want to savour some Italian cuisine in the famous shopping hub of South Delhi then these are some of the restaurants that you can try. Big Chill offers a mix of Continental, Italian and desserts. Urban Café is another restaurant in the market that offers north Indian, Italian, and Continental as well as Chinese fare. So take your pick and enjoy your meals.

Boombox Café is another restaurant that offers scrumptious Italian fare in addition to American, Asian, Chinese, French, and Mexican along with traditional north Indian fare. For a complete American or Asian fare you can head either to Route 04 or Mamagoto respectively.

Want to savour Japanese or Thai food then check out Side Wok or Blanco. While Side Wok also offers Asian and Chinese cuisines in addition to Japanese and Thai, Blanco offers only European cuisine besides Japanese and Thai.

For more Italian experience a visit to Amici or Café Turtle is a must. Amici is pure Italian while Café Turtle offers Continental. Another Italian restaurant is Water Melon which offers both continental as well as Italian cuisines.

If you want to try some kebabs then head to the famous Khan Chacha Kabab Corner. This is the oldest and one of the famous joints for all your kebab delicacies.

Some of the other popular eating joints you can try in Khan Market are Mc Donalds, Subway, and Pizza Hut.

Defence Colony

Defence Colony is another place where you can enjoy some really tasty fare.

For Italian cuisine you can head to either Stone, or Liquid Kitchen. While Stone serve only Italian, you can enjoy Chinese, North Indian, and Thai at Liquid Kitchen. You can also try 28 Capri Italy for some authentic Italian fare.

Want to savour sea food then your best bet would be to head to Shack for large variety of sea food.

Head to Chilli Seasonss if you can’t decide what you want to have or if each of your companions wants to have some different cuisine. Serving Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian cuisines, the restaurant is bound to make each one of you happy.

Swagath is another restaurant you can try if you are in the area. Although the restaurant specialises in South Indian cuisine, the restaurant also offers scrumptious Chinese, North Indian, and Sea Food.

Other Popular Eating Joints

For an authentic Mughlai fare you can head to Karim’s in Nizammudin. Karim’s is famous for its mouth-watering specialities like kebabs, korma and roomali roti a super thin bread.

Vasant Vihar

Vasant Vihar is another popular place for eating out in New Delhi. Some of the restaurants you can check out in Vasant Vihar are as follows.

Get the taste of authentic Punjabi food at Punjabi by Nature. Serving scrumptious north Indian cuisine, the restaurant is a must visit. While you are in Punjabi by Nature don’t forget to try their vodka gol gappas aperitif – the crispy shells filled with a seasoned vodka shot meant to be popped into the mouth whole for an experience of lifetime.

Other restaurants that you can try out for north Indian cuisine are The Orchid, Manchester United Restaurant and Bar. In addition to North Indian the Orchid offers Chinese, Thai, and Japanese as well.

Other restaurants offering continental fare along with Chinese and Mexican fare are Bacchus and Manchester United Restaurant & Bar. You can also savour north Indian cuisine at the Manchester United Restaurant &Bar.

In case you want to be spoiled for choices then you can head to the hotel Jaypee Vasant Continental and choose from the in-house restaurants like Paatra for north Indian cuisine and Eggspectation for European and fast food.

Try out some tasty kebabs at Colonel’s Kebabs and savour some Mughlai at Nazeers and Al Kauser Barbeque Restaurant.
