Anand Travel Guide

Situated in the Gulf of Khambhat, Anand in Gujarat is known as the milk capital of India. Anand is renowned for housing the Amul dairy and Milk factory. The city is home to the National Dairy Development Board of India and Anand Agricultural University. Anand is also the birth place of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and also has the Tribhovandas Foundation that is a non government voluntary organization working towards the development of rural women and children in Anand.

Anand in Hindi language means ‘happiness.’

A well-known movie called Manthan was shot in Anand. This movie talks about the economic hardships of rural women in India faced after independence and how a new co-operative called Amul (Anand Milk Union Ltd) was formed to help them.

Amul (Anand Milk Union Ltd) dairy was established in 1940 A.D. has grown to become one of Asia's biggest dairy companies and is still jointly owned by 3.03 million milk producers and farmers of Gujarat.
