Food of Jharkhand

Local food of Jharkhand includes vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes. Dal (pulses), rice and vegetable curry, are the staple food of Jharkhand. While rice is the staple, roti (unleavened bread) is also occasionally an important part of main meals. Pulses, vegetables, meat, eggs and fish are eaten with rice or roti. The tribes make their own local liquor called ‘hanria’, which is made of rice and can taste pungent for first timers!

Litti and Chokha are two special delicacies of Jharkhand. People include different kinds of pickle in each meal. The regular food is tasty and less spicy. People also like different kinds of leafy vegetables such as saag. Panchforan, a blend of five aromatic seeds is used for some of the vegetable dishes.

Cuisines of Jharkhand include mouth-watering non-vegetarian preparations. Mutton, chicken as well as fish are used to prepare delectable non-vegetarian cuisines.

The tribal people of the state often use flowers such as drumstick flowers and jhirool for vegetable preparations.
