Badami Travel Guide

The heritage cities of Bijapur, Bidar, and Badami are known in travel parlance as Karnataka’s “Northern Circuit”, and are located close to Hampi. Of immense historic significance, these heritage towns are popular tourist destinations and have many interesting monuments, temples, and forts to offer to the visitor.

Badami city was the capital of the early Chalukyas. Ancient Badami was known as Vatapi. Legend has it that it was named after the demon Vatapi who was slain by Agastya muni and the twin hills in Badami represent Vatapi and his demon brother Ilavalan. Badami is famous for its rock cut temples. These temples with their magnificent architecture and sculptures really make a visit to Badami worth it.

Known for magnificently carved cave temples, Badami houses truly awesome and breathtaking sculptures in their grand scale and design.
