Sightseeing in Mudumalai

Sightseeing in Mudumalai National Park is all about exploring the National Park and the Theppakadu Elephant Camp.

Mudumalai National Park also known as the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, is located on the north-western side of the Nilgiri Hills, and has been declared as a Tiger Reserve. Spanning an area of 321 sq km, the park boasts of rich flora and fauna comprising teak forests, migratory birds, range of wild animals, reptiles.

Some of the wildlife that you may spot here includes tiger, leopard, hyena, wild boar, stripe-necked mongoose, crested hawk eagles, falcon, black-woodpecker, crocodiles and pythons. Visit the museum within the sanctuary and get yourself acquainted with various animals living in the sanctuary. The other attractions of the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary include Pykara Lake, Kallatty Falls and Moyar River.

Another interesting place to visit here is the Theppakadu Elephant Camp, that was set up in 1910, and is located near the Mudumalai Wildlife Reception Centre. In 1972, the camp was declared an elephant camp. There is an idol of Lord Ganesha within the camp, which is believed to have been built in 1970. Visit the park on weekends to participate in the Elephant Show that is organised by the park authorities. The events include elephant soccer and elephant race.
