Sightseeing in Nagarhole National Park

Nagarhole National Park is home to the royal Bengal tiger and if you are lucky, you will be able to get a glimpse of this elusive beast. But fear not – even if you do not get to see the tiger, you will be able to see a variety of wildlife such as elephant, deer, wild boars and even porcupines!! Watch out for the snakes too – there are a great variety of them here – from the cobra to the python. If you are an admirer of trees, there will be plenty for you to gape at here – Nagarhole is mostly deciduous with a small belt of tropical forest. The tree species to be seen here include Tectona Grandis, Dalbergia Latifolia, Wrightia Tinctoria and Acacia.

Your binoculars will really come in handy to watch the rare species of birds at Nagarhole National Park. Keep an eye out for the Malabar Trogan, the Crested Hawk eagle and the Malabar Pied Hornbill. There are over 250 varieties of birds at Nagarhole National Park. For a change from all the jeep rides, there are some motor-boat and interesting coracle rides to be had on the lake created when the Kabini River was dammed in 1974. The lake thus created provides the forest with a perennial water reservoir. In the dry season all the animals flock here looking for respite from the heat and to quench their thirst, making this a great spot for finding wildlife.
