Buses are regular and cheap and connect the entire town. Auto rickshaws are great for short distances and travelling around town. In addition, chauffer-driven cars can be hired from a number of travel agencies and tour operators in town.
For a taste of the backwaters it is essential to hire a boat, and options include speed boats and row boats both ordinary as well as deluxe. Boats are the only way to explore places like Kuttanad, which are inaccessible by road. Ferry services are used by locals as well and are a great way to see the town.
You can also walk around many places of attractions which are best explored by foot.
