Kottayam Travel Guide

Kottayam is an important city for rubber producers, Syrian Christians and the Malayalam Manorama, the second most widely read paper in India. The land of latex and lakes, Kottayam lies sandwiched between the Western Ghat, the rice growing Kuttanad region and the Vambanad Lake-a land virtually in the heart of Kerala's backwaters.

Kottayam is a region of very high literacy-(Kottayam was the first town in India to achieve a literacy of 100%), vast rubber plantations and a large number of lakes.

Kottayam was put on the world map after Arundhati Roy's famous book, 'The God of Small Things'.
