Orchha, a town in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, boasts off ancient palaces, crenulated forts and rich historical past. Transport yourself to the bygone era as a journey to this town will be like flipping through the records of medieval history. This town was built by Raja Rudra Pratap in 1501 and is located 16 kms from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. Ringed by rising hills, Orchha sits on River Betwa and is crammed with sweet smell of custard apples. This undulating land has towering temples and forts. Bundelas who ruled this place for two centuries left a rich inheritance to posterity as their style of architecture was unique.

In Bundelkhandi, Orchha literally means ‘hidden land.’
As the legend goes the Rai Parveen Mahal was named after Raja Indrajit Singh’s courtesan. She was so widely known for her excellent music and poetry that even the Mughal Emperor Akbar was besotted by her charm.
