Ganesh Chaturthi, Gudi Padwa, and Diwali are some of the prominent festivals in Ganpatipule that are celebrated with great fanfare and enthusiasm.
Ganesh Chaturthi commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha and is celebrated with much enthusiasm in August-September. The festivities include bringing home a clay idol of Lord Ganesha and establishing him as the divine guest for ten days and at the end of the tenth day the idol is carried out in a procession. Priests, drummers and worshippers join the procession and the air is filled in a festive mood.
Another important festival in Ganpatipule is Gudi Padwa that is celebrated as the New Year according to the Hindu calendar. The festivities include ritual oil baths, performing puja, decorating homes with mango leaves and rangoli and wearing new clothes.
Diwali is celebrated in the month of November. This is a festival of lights and colours. It signifies the triumph of good over evil. Diwali is associated with various events. People welcome Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Diwali is also celebrated to welcome Lord Rama’s return after 14 years of exile.
