|
The natural beauty coupled with a few historic sites make for great sightseeing in Tarkarli.
The Sindhudurg Fort is just a 20 minute ride from Tarkarli. Built by Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century, the fort is massive and has a concealed door, a rare coconut tree and a temple dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is situated on the island of Kurte and is a fine example of Deccan architecture.
The Tarkarli Beach is a beautiful stretch of soft white sand, clear blue water and Shuru trees in the background. On a clear day one can see the sea bed up to a depth of almost 20 feet. If you are lucky, you can also catch dolphins jumping about in the waters, having a gala time. You can also check out some of the other the beaches like Bhogwe and Nivti.
The Tarkarli Creek at the backwaters of River Karli is a beautiful place where the colourful fish, clean waters and the green canopies will leave you spell bounded and mesmerized
