Shopping in Shillong

There is a plethora of options for shopping in Shillong and some of the prominent markets include Barabazar and Police Bazaar.

Shopaholics can head to Barabazar, which is one of the oldest and traditional markets in Shillong. Renowned as the Iewduh Market, Barabazar is the place to buy local handicrafts made out of bamboo and wood. Tibetan artefacts, honey, bamboo pickle and Khasi dresses are some of the other things you may buy from here.

Another important market in Shillong is the Police Bazaar, which has small shops offering various options to the buyers. You may buy local artefacts and handicraft items made by the tribal people. Popular for their craftsmanship, the tribal people create a range of artistic and utility products out of cane and bamboo. If you wish to buy some finely woven baskets, Kacheri Road is the place to go.

Authentic local handicrafts and souvenirs are available at Purbashree in Police Bazaar, which is an emporium run by the Government of Meghalaya. Hand-woven shawls, black mushrooms, fruit products and orange honey are some of the other things that you may buy from here.
