Shopping in Jodhpur

If you want to go shopping in Jodhpur then visit Giridikot market and Sardar market. These markets are the colourful shopping districts in the heart of the city with tiny shops squeezed into narrow lanes. Head there to pick up a selection of handicrafts – metal curios, leather goods, paintings, richly embroidered jootis (open slippers), silverware, tie-dye fabrics and custom tailored ‘jodhpurs’, the breeches that are synonymous with the city. Look out for the fine ‘durries’ in cotton and wool in vibrant colours woven in the villages around Jodhpur.

Sojati Gate, Mochi ki Gali, Lakhara Bazaar and Tripolia Bazaar are some of the best shopping places in Jodhpur. For handlooms, the best place would be Rajasthan Khadi Sangh. Keeping in mind that Jodhpur was a rich princely state, the markets also offer some excellent deals in antiques from the houses of the erstwhile nobility. The inner city markets are good hunting grounds, especially for those who are cogniscent with fine pieces.
