Religion in Rajasthan

Hinduism is the major religion in Rajasthan. However, there are other religions such as Islam, Jainism, Dadupanthi, Sikhism and Christianity followed by the people of Rajasthan.

The followers of Hinduism worship Hindu gods and goddesses and celebrate all the major religious festivals with pomp and gaiety. There are people who follow the principles of Arya Samaj, reforming sect of Hinduism.

Islam started spreading in the late 12th century, after the take-over of Ajmer by Muslim invaders. The well-renowned Chishti ki Dargah is in Ajmer.

Mostly, the traders and the business class follow Jainism. Dadupanthi is yet another religious sect of the state. They follow the principles of Dadu, who preached the equality of all men, total abstinence from intoxicating liquor, strict vegetarianism and lifelong celibacy.

Apart from these, there are few people who follow Sikhism and Christianity.
