Coaker's Walk

History

The very popular Coaker’s Walk is a kilometre long narrow pedestrian path, which runs along the edge of steep slopes of Kodai in the beautiful hill station of Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Coaker's Walk offers the tourists with a wonderful panoramic view of the exotic landscape of Kodaikanal.

Coaker's Walk is known for its long winding paths surrounded by lush green forests and vivid flora. Tourists can enjoy the natural splendour of Kodaikanal from the Coaker's Walk, which is a perfect getaway from the frantic city life. The place is almost always covered with mist and fog and gives the visitor the feeling of being in the clouds. One can from this walk also have an eagle’s view of another attraction of the hill station, the Dolphins Nose. The place is so named because of a rock that protrudes outwards from a cliff and gives an eagle’s view of the surrounding area.

The walk also gives a view of the valley of the Pambar River in South East and the cities of Periyakulam and Madurai. Another main reason for the tourists to flock this place is that if one is lucky enough one can observe the phenomenon of ‘Brocken Spectre’. In this phenomenon, a person with his backside to the sun can observe his/her magnified shadow on the clouds. The shadow itself is surrounded by a halo of rainbow coloured rings. Several people come to Coaker’s Walk hoping that this might be the lucky day their shadow is cast across the skies!

All in all it is a place where one comes to relax and rejuvenate one’s mind and soul in the presence of natural beauty.

Best time to visit

Kodaikanal can be visited anytime of the year. The summers are warm and pleasant with temperatures ranging from 15 to 35 degrees. Winters last from November to February and are generally cool with temperatures hovering around 10 degrees.

Trivia
