Dublin Travel Guide

‘When I die, Dublin will be written in my heart’ – James Joyce

Dublin has been immortalised in literature and song (remember the ghostly Molly Malone selling cockles and mussels on the streets of the Fair City, remember James Joyce’s legendary Dubliners?), in history and in art. For this is perhaps one of Europe’s most enchanting capitals - Dublin is a city of beautiful architecture, of warm and friendly people, of an exuberance which is hard to match.

Sitting on the banks of the river Liffey, Dublin is situated by the side of Dublin Bay, with the Wicklow Mountains in close proximity. Filled with quaint old buildings, museums, pubs and interesting old streets, Dublin is definitely a place to visit if you’re planning a trip to Ireland. In fact, it’s a city where you should spend at least a few days- it needs to be savored, each sight to be ‘drunk’ in, and each memory to be stored away.

And memories of Dublin don’t go easily- it’s a city that’s particularly conducive to remember, cherish, and revisit.

While in Dublin pay a visit to the U2 wall at Windmill Lane Studios - graffiti pencilled all over in tribute to this famous band who have done a major part of their recordings here. Dublin is home to other musicians like Sinead O'Connor and Thin Lizzy too.

Dublin has also produced many a literary writer like James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and not to forget George Bernard Shaw.

Do you know Dublin was actually called Dubh Linn meaning Black Pool. This pool refers to the oldest known natural treacle lake in Northern Europe that at present forms the centrepiece of the penguin enclosure in Dublin Zoo.

On an average a 25-year-old Dubliner lives with his parents and prefers to spend his money on fast cars and clothes rather than a mortgage.
