Luang Prabang Travel Guide

The colourful city of Luang Prabang is the 3rd largest in Laos, with over 30 000 multi-ethnic inhabitants. The city is located in north central region of Laos, 700 meters above the sea level at the confluence of the Nam Khan and the Mekong River. Luang Prabang has a lot of natural, historical and cultural landmarks.

The town depicts rich heritage, French architecture and eventful history. The quiet and quaint street-side cafes, ancient temples and the laid-back atmosphere of Luang- Prabang attracts a large number of tourists to come and give in to the calm benevolence of the city. The locals are friendly with a chilled-out attitude and will welcome you with pleasure and zeal. The rest of the day can be spent seeing the sights or relaxing and soaking in the atmosphere.

Today, Luang Prabang is Laos’ foremost tourist attraction.

Luang Prabang has no modern buildings at all. Instead it makes the town a perfect place to enjoy the natural culture and heritage of Laos. The ancient buildings in the town reflect pure French Indochinese architectural skills of the craftsmen.

Luang Prabang in Laos was voted to be the number one tourist destination by The New York Times in the year 2008.
