How to Get to Riga

How to Get to Riga by Air

Riga has the largest seaport with passenger facilities, railway terminal and international airport in the Baltics, so travelers to the country can fly/ drive or train into the capital.

Riga is linked by air (the main airline flying to Riga is the national carrier, Air Baltic in partnership with SAS), to a number of cities in Europe. These include London, Warsaw, Paris, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Geneva and other important capitals across the continent- but not outside Europe. There are no links to cities outside Europe, so if you’re coming from anywhere beyond the continent, you’ll first have to get to any of the connecting airports and then take a flight to Riga

By Sea:

A limited amount of river traffic is there on the Daugava River, but this is limited to commercial goods, and few passengers reach Riga by boat- except by one of the international ferries that connect the city to Estonia, Germany and Sweden.

Getting Around Riga

Many of Riga’s most popular tourist attractions are close together, so it’s a good idea to use your legs- get to an area by bus, cab or tram, and then walk around.

If you have to travel a distance, hiring a car is a good option- there are a number of car rental agencies in the city, and it’s a quick, convenient way of making your way about. Alternatively, you could use the city’s public transport system- the bus and tram networks are fast and efficient, and getting a pass is an economical way of travelling. Riga also has a good taxi service; taxis can be hailed, or you can telephone for one.
