Shopping in Riga

Riga is easily the best place to go shopping in, particularly if you don’t have the time to go wandering all over the countryside looking for souvenirs. Most traditional handicrafts produced in the country- textiles, woodwork, ceramics, and amber jewellery and so on- make their way to the capital, where souvenir shops, boutiques and even street stalls sell them. You might pay more than you’d have to pay in the countryside (and Latvia, on the whole, is an expensive land- prices, on an average, are about what you’d expect to pay in Scandinavia), but you’ll get most of what Latvia is known for.

Cash is still the most accepted form of payment, even in Riga, although some large stores have started to accept credit cards.
