Festivals and Events in Langkawi

All round the year, different festivals in Langkawi are celebrated with pomp and gaiety. The festivals start from the very first month of the year. The people of Langkawi welcome New Year with lots of enthusiasm. The Hindus residing in this place celebrate Pongal in January.

In February, Le Tour de Langkawi, a special cycling event is organised. This is a challenging event in which, the participants have to show their skills on different terrains.

April is the time for Langkawi International Water Festival. During this event, competitions and water sports exhibitions are organised. Some of the competitions that take place during this festival are sandcastle-building, island-to-island kayak race, underwater treasure hunt, fishing competition and beach netball game.

Langkawi International Festival of Art is yet another important event held in April. During this 10-day event, exhibitions, workshops are organised. You can also interact with the local artists and learn how beautiful crafts such as batik are done.

Adventure enthusiasts can visit this place in May when participants from different corners of the world gather to be a part of Wilderness Langkawi Challenge. Different sports such as mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and running are organised.

July is the season for foodies. Langkawi Food and Fruit Fiesta is organised in this month. Exotic cuisines are prepared, cooking competitions are held during this week-long event.

Langkawi celebrates Merdeka in August to mark the independence of this place. Different water sport events and cultural programmes are organised during this time.

Hari Raya Aidil Fitri is another important event held in October to mark the end of Ramadan.

Langkawi International Fishing Tournament, Diwali, Langkawi Craft Festival are the other festivals celebrated in Langkawi. Langkawi International Fishing Tournament attracts participants from different parts of the globe. The event is held throughout the night. Diwali is yet another Hindu festival celebrated in Langkawi.
