Religion in Sweden

Sweden guarantees freedom of religion to all its citizens, but the overwhelming majority of the population is Christian and belongs to the Church of Sweden, a Lutheran church. Practicing Christians, however are much fewer: just a fraction of the people actually go to church, and for most Christianity is limited to major festivals like Christmas or Easter, or certain ceremonies such as baptism, weddings and funerals.

Other than Christians, there are minority communities amongst the immigrants who have come to the country in the past few decades. Among these, the main religions are Islam, Judaism and Buddhism (apart from other denominations of Christianity).
