How to Get to Geneva

How to Get to Geneva by Air

Several leading international carriers operate to and from Geneva’s International Airport . The city centre is only 5 kms away and trains run every 15 minutes from the airport to the city’s main station of Gare Cornavin. The ride costs SF 3.20 and takes only 6 minutes. There is a bus service too, but it takes 20 minutes though costs only SF 2. Taxis are available but are expensive, in the region of SF 35 for the 15 minute ride into the city centre

How to Get to Geneva by Rail

Trains come in from all over the continent and the main station is the Gare Cornavin. If coming in from Paris the high speed TGV is the best train to use. Geneva is also very well connected with other Swiss towns.

How to Get to Geneva by Bus

If you are coming in from France, it is easy to drive into Geneva as the A40 links the city to Chamonix and the French Alps. A valid international license is all that is required and if using the highways you will have to buy a vignette which can be easily bought at any one of the border towns. This sticker costs SF 40 and is mandatory.

Getting Around Geneva

Getting around in Geneva is plum easy. Rent a car if you like to drive and be independent. Taxis are easily available. A convenient option is tram or bus service, which is widely used and inexpensive. Buy the cartejournaliste for all day unlimited travel on the tram/bus routes. A mile long cab ride will be about 13 SF a mile. Frequent yellow shuttle boats criss cross the lake daily between 7.30 am to 6 pm.
