Lausanne Travel Guide

Lausanne is the essence of French Switzerland and all things typically Swiss. Lausanne is the soul of romance, of snowcapped peaks, of cool breezes, green vineyards, of chocolates, wines and Swiss cheeses.

Lausanne spectacularly beautiful city, home to Switzerland’s largest church, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, is an intellectual and cultural centre and headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. You will find plenty to see and do in Lausanne, from winter sports, hiking and sightseeing, to souvenir hunting, swimming and sunbathing. Lausanne is today a major tourist destination, but the city remains, despite all its commercialism, as elegant and charming a town as ever.

The birthplace of the Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee headquarters are based in Lausanne.

If you’re going to be travelling a lot by public transport, be sure to invest in a Swiss Pass - it entitles you to limitless travel on lake steamers, post buses, local trams and buses and the Federal Railway. The Pass is economical for travel in and around Lausanne.
