Festivals and Events in Alaska

You could also time your visit to coincide with the many special seasonal festivals, depending on your interests and inclination.

The festival calendar begins with the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous, a sled dog world championship race in mid-February, followed by the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race between Anchorage to Nome in mid March.

The beginning of May sees the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in south central Alaska while chamber music is celebrated in the June Sitka Summer Music Festival, Sitka.. July presents a marathon of a festival the July 4th Mount Marathon race and Celebration, Seward with the run followed by a food, craft and music fiesta.

For a feel of Alaskan traditions, come to the Alaska State Fair in Palmer at the beginning of September. Winter celebrations include the Athabascan Fiddling Festival at Fairbanks in November.
