Located in the downtown of Anchorage is the Anchorage Museum. The museum aims to share and connect Alaska with the world through the understanding of art, science and history.

It was built through public private partnership and was thrown open in 1968 to celebrate the 100th year of Alaska purchase. The museum started with 60 borrowed paintings when it started in the year 0f 1986 and on the other hand now it has nearly 25000 historical objects and 50,000 historical photograph which is quite a significant amount for any museum.

Exhibits showcase different areas and villages of Alaska that have fascinated people from the early ice age to present. This museum appeals to people of all ages as it has fun activities with science related themes to cater to children.

The Anchorage Museum has over 40,000 square feet (3,700 m2) devoted to its permanent collection which makes it one of the most exhaustive museums worldwide with a substantial range of exhibits and programs that acquaint Alaskans with the art, culture, history and science of other peoples and places.
