Best Time to Visit Chicago

Chicago is a city for all seasons. The city is chockablock with tourist influx during summers (June to September). This peak-tourist season is hot and humid with average temperature rising above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The accommodation prices raise high during this period. These months are bundled up with various outdoor festivals.

The month of June bags Festa Pasta Vino Festival that celebrates Italian food and culture while offering authentic cuisine and wines accompanied with live performances. ‘Taste of Randolph Street Festival’ during this month presents the culinary offerings, live music and crafts.

Likewise the month of July invites you to the famous ‘Taste of Chicago Festival,’ where more than 50 local restaurants offer their signature dishes; the music events like Country Music Fest, Gospel Fest, Celtic Fest and the Viva Chicago Latin Music Festival, that include live music performances from theatre troupes, also take place during this month. If you are a burger buff then attending ‘Roscoe Village Burger Fest’ is a must. July also witnesses the ‘Windy City Ribfest’ that features best ribs contest and other foods with drinks and live music. The ‘Taste of Lincoln Avenue’ and ‘Taylor Street Festa Italiana’ are other two famous food, music and cultural events in July.

August offers the ‘Street Food Artistry’ Festival which celebrates street-inspired dishes and includes cooking demonstrations. ‘Taste of Greece Festival and ‘Elvis is Alive’ race are other two most attended events.

‘Windy City Wine Festival’ held in the month of September samples over 270 wines accompanied with cooking demonstrations, seminars etc. During the ‘Light and Night Chicago’ Festival people carry illuminated balloons on a two-mile walk and is ended with a feast. The ‘Oyster Fest’ in September invites you to enjoy oysters with music and beer.

If you don’t mind unpredictable weather then spring and autumn seasons (April-May and October-November) are fine times to plan a trip to Chicago. Late spring can be chilly enough to carry a sweater and late autumn can be hot enough for cottons. With less number of tourists around you will be paying a little less for your accommodation but don’t anticipate rock-bottom deals. Chicago receives good amount of rainfall in spring season, therefore make sure to carry an umbrella during this time. Visiting in the month of October you will be able to witness the ‘Pumpkins in the Park’ annual event, which includes kid’s costume parade, pumpkin decoration and costume contest for adults.

Winter season (December to March) being an off-tourist season is good to visit if you are crowd-phobic but beware of the freezing cold temperatures which drop down to 29 degrees Fahrenheit in afternoon and 14 degrees Fahrenheit during night. You can get best hotel deals during this time as the prices may fall by almost 50%. The special outdoor events like the Christkindlmarket—a large German-themed Christmas fair in December— is worth visiting for.
