How to Get to Chicago

How to Get to Chicago by Air

O'Hara International airport, 20 miles from downtown Chicago is the world's busiest airport. There are many national airlines that are headquartered here. You can get into O'Hara Airport on any major national and international airline. The airport is connected to the city by Chicago Transit Authority subway train service, taxis and buses. Alternately, rent a car from any car rental agency represented at the airport.

On the city’s southwest side, is located Midway airport – the airport serviced by many domestic carriers. This airport is close to downtown and you can take the Orange line subway train to the Loop or take an Airport Express bus into the Loop. A cab ride from Midway to the Loop area would set you back about $20 plus tip. If you want to be independent, rent a car at the airport.

How to Get to Chicago by Rail

Amtrak has a major hub in Chicago and this is always a viable option.

How to Get to Chicago by Bus

You can get to Chicago on the I-80/90 Indiana Toll Road from the east, I-57 from the south and from the north, get on to the I-90 and the I-94 which join together to form the John F Kennedy Expressway, 10 miles north of the city. If you are coming from the west, get on to the I-80 to I-55. Greyhound Lines and several other smaller bus companies have regular services to the city.

Getting Around Chicago

It’s your choice. Rent a car. Taxis are easily available. Chicago's public transportation services are excellent --the Chicago Transit Authority runs 24 hours bus and train services. Many parts of Chicago can be seen on foot.. A shuttle boat is available for trips on the river.
