Best Time to Visit Washington Dc

The best time to visit Washington DC is during the transitional month of March and the summer season (June- August). Visit Washington during March to witness the well-known Cherry Blossom Festival. You will see over 700,000 tourists coming to celebrate this two-week spring festival and to enjoy the spectacular view of 3,000 cherry trees blossoming accompanied by Japanese marching bands and taiko drummers.

The summer weather is sweltering with temperatures averaging around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. You will encounter thick holiday crowd during this time, especially at the monuments, streets and museums. June invites you to the world’s largest event that showcases contemporary Jazz during the five-day Capitol Jazz Fest. During July you can attend the largest two-week annual cultural event of Smithsonian Folklife Festival that features demonstrations by chefs, popular artists, storytellers, craftsmen and performers from over 90 nations and 100 Native American groups.

Be prepared to pay at least 20% more on the hotel prices than you would in the low season, therefore book your accommodation and favourite restaurants a month in advance.

Spring (April-May) and fall (September-November) months bring in the shoulder season in Washington DC. The weather during this time remains pleasant with temperatures ranging from 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Visiting during this time you can beat the summer crowds and the winter cold. The hotel prices don’t reduce significantly but are comparatively lower than peak-season and are easily available.

If you are a voracious reader and love books you can quench you thirst by attending Washington DC’s annual National Book Festival, held in September. Sponsored by the Library of Congress, this festival is open to public, encourages love for reading and features book-signing from well-known best-selling authors, storytelling and live music.

Winter (December-January) months mark off-tourist season in Washington DC. The weather turns very cold as temperatures dropping below freezing accompanied with frequent rain showers. You will see fewer crowds during this season, Christmas celebration is an exception. If you don’t mind freezing temperatures, you can find good hotel and restaurant deals during this time.
