Renowned for its shopping, every year Singapore hosts its Grand Singapore Sale, one of the most elaborate shopping festivals between the months of May and August.
The phrase shop till you drop is aptly coined for shopping in Singapore. From branded labels to shops selling local stuff, shopping in Singapore is a shoppers' delight. So if you are a shopaholic then plan your holidays between June to July as this is the time when the Singapore Great Shopping Festival is in full swing. During this period one can avail discounts up to 70%, great value add offers and some ridiculous gift vouchers and best of all you get all this – while you are shopping!
During this time shopkeepers lower their prices to attract more visitors and it is during this festival wide ranges of products are freed to enrich the shopping experience in the country.
You can shop for high end brands at Orchard Road which boasts of branded labels and the road extends from Plaza Singapura in the East to Tanglin Mall in the west. In addition to these, one can also shop at civic and financial district centre and for a mall shopping experience one can head to Marina Square Mall. Holland Village is quite popular with tourists and expatriates living in the country as it offers a wide range of antiques, gifts, and music and art goods. One can also shop at Chinatown for ethnic Chinese stuff and the Little India for interesting stuff from India. Some other popular tourist malls on Orchard include Takashimaya, Ion, Wisma Atria and Paragon.
If you have a knack for bargaining then head to street markets where you can bargain to your heart’s content and buy loads of locally made merchanside. Shop at Lucy Plaza, Mustafa or Far East Plaza for electronics items.
